HEATED APPLICATIONS
Never Too Hot. Never Too Cold. Always Just Right.
Two PEPI Model J snap action thermal controls are keeping food
at just the right temperature in a 12 VDC heated food bag. The thermal
contnrols are harnessed together at our plant for fast assembly
to the polytherm element. We also isolate them in heat shrink mylar
sleeves. The Model J's low, .16" profile keeps the surface
smooth. The narrow 1.8°F differential between an open and closed
circuit keeps the temperature constant.

POWER TOOLS
Put A Fuse On It
In a new design for a well-known power tool, a fuse was to be
attached to the lead wire of a bimetallic thermal control. The only
problem was that the tool manufacturer couldn't attach this tiny
fuse without skyrocketing scrap costs. The flexibility of our own
manufacturing process and our ability to design and build precise
machine tools meant that we could handle the job and still save
money for the manufacturer. We welded the fuse to PEPI Model V(A)
thermal controls in our own plant where costs were as tightly controlled
as the circuit.

APPLIANCES
Money Saved Is Money Earned
We helped cut a multi-step, multi-component, multi-day process
down to a few minutes for a major manufacturer of battery chargers.
When they wanted to simplify production and costs, they turned to
the PEPI Model W. By attaching leads and terminations at our plant,
the customer saved both inventory costs and job shop charges. The
result was real savings compared to the way things were done before.
Now every PEPI Model W arrives ready to have a battery charger attached

BATTERY PACKS
We Harness The Weather
One customer was faced with a cold weather problem. The battery
packs they were manufacturing were to be used in professional video
cameras. The cameras were to be used in cold weather so the battery
packs also had to power a small heater. We developed a special harness
linking 12 PEPI Model C thermal controls to monitor the entire cell.
This proved to be a sensible, low-cost solution that also reliably
prevented overcharge conditions in a battery pack forced to do double
duty in cold weather conditions. We harnessed the weather to help
our customer's products work better.

APPLIANCES
Ready. Set. Go.
Thanks to a customized PEPI Model CR thermal control, people
know when a new carpet and upholstery cleaner is ready to go. This
device is attached to a new ultra-small water heater. The bimetallic
element is normally open, but when it senses the water heater warming
to a particular temperaturre it closes the circuit and the Ready
Light comes on. Works every time. But it took lots of effort by
PEPI engineers to make it work just right. We made hundreds of prototypes
searching for just the right operating temperature. Precisely calibrated
devices are now fitted with Nomex insulating sleeves and have leads
attached before they leave our plant.

HEATERS
Long On Engineering. Short Production.
A manufacturer of large electrical enclosures needed to maintain
a fairly constant temperature inside their cabinets. This was proving
difficult in large metal enclosures mounted out of doors. In cold
weather the inside temperature plunged as the cold metal enclosure
transmitted cold inside. In warm weather the situation was reversed.
To compound the problem, these cabinets were to be made low volumes
making it difficult to develop a cost-effective custom solution.
The solution proved to be a fan mounted inside the cabinets that
would kick on whenever the temperature inside the cabinets became
too hot or too cold. A sophisticated wire harness, developed by
PEPI, was used to open or close the circuit in order to turn the
fan on and off as the temperature moved above or below the desired
range. Each wire harness was shipped with capacitgor and special
terminations already attached at our plant. This is the kind of
short-run, high-value solution few thermal control manufacturers
like to tackle.
